I am a qualified secondary school teacher with several year’s mainstream classroom experience. This makes me well placed to facilitate projects with children and young people in an arts and heritage setting, where I have worked across all key stages and subject areas as well as within the informal learning landscape. Previous projects have also included work with community groups including faith and special interest groups. Think I might be able to bring something to a project you are planning? Please get in touch.
Connecting Places: our untold stories
I’m ashamed to say I had never even heard of an ‘unconference’ before I was asked to work on one! The general premise is that the format allows the audience to generate the agenda and content and therefore that ‘top down’ power is diminished. Connecting Places: our untold stories was an unconference staged as part…
TitilLATE
I’ve always loved the concept of Museum ‘Lates’ – a chance to reimagine museum and heritage spaces for an after-hours audience. When devising the original BMAG Lates series for Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, I liked to focus as far as possible on giving the audience a chance to ‘play’ with the themes and the…
Queer Looks
In April 2017 an email popped up in my inbox from the London College of Fashion, who wanted me to coordinate a young people’s project feeding into an exhibition charting the past fifty years of LGBTQ dress. Encompassing close work with communities around both fashion and identity, as well as a strong oral history element,…
Take Over Day at the Royal Pavilion
Take Over Day is a national initiative from Kids in Museums that goes from strength to strength every year. In 2017 I was asked to lead on the Royal Pavilion’s offer, which saw thirty year 9 students from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy(PACA) get involved in the running of Brighton’s number one heritage site and tourist…
Diwali Family Day at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
I have been working with the Hindu Women’s Group of Brighton and Hove for years now to programme the annual Diwali event at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, which often attracts over 2000 people. This year’s event included henna hand painting, Bollywood dance workshops, a chance to dress up in traditional Indian clothing and the…
Talisman Project at Varndean School
This was my second year of running the Talisman project with Our Future City and Varndean School, and it was an absolute pleasure again! The project invites participants to explore the idea of talismans, or significant objects, before encouraging them to design and make their own out of clay. Once the clay work has been…
London Street Style: 1970s – present day
I was delighted to be asked by the V&A to work with my favourite theatre group, SPID, a site-specific theatre company for young people based on a housing estate in North West London. My brief was to devise two days content at the V&A and at SPID’s base exploring street style in London from the…
World Stories: Young Voices
I project managed the engagement side of three displays that form part of the newly developed World Stories: Young Voices gallery at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. I worked with Dorothy Stringer School on an animation exploring the objects from the Arctic, with young people from a local Mosque to create a display and accompanying…
Modernist Architecture Tours
This was one of those projects that just worked. I was approached by the V&A to work with young people living in and around a progressive modernist housing block in North West London to explore the architecture of that time. Over three day-long workshops at the V&A and on site in Kensal House we looked at the…
