My inquisite colleague Su Hepburn and I were asked to support the planning of a one-day conference exploring the impact of museum and galleries’ programming to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality during 2017.
The conference was chaired by artist and curator Matt Smith, with speakers from Pride & Prejudice Liverpool Museums, Transmission and Trans*Objects Amsterdam Museum, Queer British Art at Tate Britain, Prejudice & Pride National Trust, GLAM Oxford , People’s History Museum Manchester, Russell- Cotes Museum Bournemouth, the Museum of Transology and Queer Looks at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
One of my favourite aspects of the project was mentoring two workforce development placements at the Royal Pavilion Museums who lead on conference coordination. Louise and Peter were both seconded from their regular jobs within the organisation to lead on conference coordination – they both did absolutely brilliantly and were a pleasure to work with.
