Banyan worn by George IV, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery’s Costume Collection

On the back of the First Floor of Brighton Museum & Art Gallery you will find the popular Fashion & Style gallery, housing a small selection of the nationally important dress collection that belongs to the city.   My favourite piece is a beautiful Schiaparelli evening dress. I was commissioned to write a formal report into how the Costume Collection at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery is currently being used and to make some recommendations for its future use. The research phase of the project involve talking to lots of different people and it turns out I had a lot to say – 8462 words to be precise! I have loved the collection since I first moved to Brighton way back when, and am hoping some of my suggestions can help ensure it is seen and enjoyed by more people.
