Lovely Year 9 students helping with a new display in the Royal Pavilion shop. Thank you to The Argus for the photograph!

Take Over Day is a national initiative from Kids in Museums that goes from strength to strength every year. In 2017 I was asked to lead on the Royal Pavilion’s offer, which saw thirty year 9 students from Portslade Aldridge Community Academy(PACA)  get involved in the running of Brighton’s number one heritage site and tourist attraction.

Over the course of the day the students helped to display new stock in the shop, answer phone calls in the booking office, develop and deliver pop up talks for other visitors, contribute to the organisation’s social media feed and even visit the behind-the-scenes workshop spaces to learn how to pack artefacts to conservation standards.

The students we worked with were impeccably behaved and responded to their new roles and responsibilities very professionally – thank you PACA!
