London Street Style: 1970s – present day

I was delighted to be asked by the V&A to work with my favourite theatre group, SPID, a site-specific theatre company for young people based on a housing estate in North West London. My brief was to devise two days content at the V&A and at SPID’s base exploring street style in London from the 1970s to the present day with a particular focus on Afro-Caribbean influences. Social history of the 70s and 80s is such a rich topic and an easy one to engage young people with as there are always parallels to be drawn to the present day. We had a lot of fun exploring the Fashion gallery at the V&A and styling some historically accurate costumes for an upcoming SPID show. Thanks for having me again SPID-ers, I hope you learnt as much from the project as I did!
