Front of teacher leaflet produced as part of publicity materials
The Kent & Sharpshooters Museum in the grounds of Hever Castle in Kent had a tricky problem they needed to solve: how to offer engaging on-site activities for schools without any learning staff? In autumn 2016 we worked through this problem and others to develop a comprehensive learning strategy, series on on-site resources and publicity programme ready to launch to schools in 2017. My favourite aspect was the design of eight military haversacks, each with a different curriculum focus and series of hands-on activities inside for visiting groups. Students learning about the First World War can try on uniforms, read original letters and write their own remembrance poetry. Students learning about the Second World War can try their hand at Morse code and orienteering as well as look through provisions to decide what to take with them for a night in an Anderson Shelter.
