Learning Toolkit produced as part of the legacy of the successful Dr Blighty project

I was recently approached by London-based arts organisation Nutkhut to translate the wonderful work they did as part of Brighton Festival 2016 into a legacy document for teachers.

It was one of the stand out events at last year’s festival and you couldn’t move in Brighton for people talking about it: as part of the centenary commemorating the First World War, over a million people were captivated by Dr Blighty, a series of immersive events that took over the Royal Pavilion Garden to explore the town’s role in caring for injured Indian soldiers from the Western front.

The breath-taking after-dark projections on the exterior of the Royal Pavilion were a particular draw, with rumours that the Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove Council was contacted by his deputy whilst on holiday to ask what to do about the crowds!

Like many I have long been drawn to the Indian Hospitals story, and felt honoured to be chosen to play a small part in preserving it for future generations.

The Learning Toolkit is aimed at KS2 and 3 teachers and includes activities that tie in to the Art, English and Drama programmes of study. It should be published on the Nutkhut website soon.

I adore immersive theatre and hope to work with Nutkhut on more exciting projects in the future – watch this space!
