BMAG Lates

FashionablyLate

Poster for the first ever BMAG: Late. Designed by the utterly gorgeous Dominic Evans.

I was lucky enough to be asked to head up a brand new Lates programme at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery in 2012. It was pretty much my dream job as it involved lots of creative programming tied into various museum exhibitions or city-wide initiatives, so never got boring! Over the course of two years I pushed to use the space in as many new and innovative ways as I could think of (whilst still staying on the right side of the Conservation and Curatorial teams and the Security & Fire Safety Manager!), trying everything from collaborative claymation to giant paint-by-numbers, debates to bedtime stories, and from ‘speed hating’ to a silent disco in the Ancient Egypt Gallery (we may or may not have played The Bangles…).  Some of my favourite events were co-produced by community partners, including Play Late, working with a group of young people to explore themes prevalent in the Jeff Koons exhibition, and Dead Late, a Mexican Day of the Dead inspired extravaganza staged in collaboration with the fabulous Latin Voices Live.
